GGI REVIEW: GHK's gas blowback AK74U (in progress)

I have already PM'd Johnny from RA Tech so I'm sure the modifications will be made. Now the rocket valve is not necessary and didn't affect the blow back. It was mainly the spring which allowed for stronger pressure in the blow back unit. Again, it's only felt recoil so I can't give exact measurements on the difference it made. It could be all in my mind.

Update: After some more testing the biggest difference was warming up the mag using hot running water for about 30 seconds. The velocity jumped from 350 to 390 FPS with 0.2g BBs! This mag can take some serious pressure... if I can find Red Gas I'll give it a test. Or maybe a Madbull CO2 adapter...

Yes, the recoil is very nice. But the best part is the metal on metal sound. CLANG CLANG CLANG!!!

As far as what you can tell now, do you think it will be skirmish ready out of the box?

Is the recoil as much as say a WA M4?

The GHK gas blow back AK isn't as bad as I made it sound. I guess I was just spoiled by my upgraded WA M4.

In stock form, the recoil is nice and comparable to a stock WA M4. The AK mag holds a large amount of gas and can finish off an entire magazine - even with long bursts! I don't have to tell you guys how satisfying it is to hear the sound of metal on metal every time you squeeze the trigger. Now the mag does have the cool down issue. But RA Tech already posted about that before I even decided to get one of these AKs. And while the mag does get cold, it is still capable of running through a couple mags (refilling the gas) before the cool down effect becomes a serious issue.

Skirmish ready out of the box... give me another day or so to finish up some range and accuracy tests. Unfortunately I haven't done much work on that part of the review yet because I've been too busy having fun shooting it.

Ok thank you for that. You definitely just reassured me in wanting to buy this again...with all these GBB coming out its easy to be swayed back and forth.

Would it be possible to have a mechanism that block the valve when the magazine is empty? Then you would get some similar function as the real AK.

You could use something like the valve lock (on the WA M4 mag) but in reverse... that way it would become a valve "block" Of course the major obstacle to this is the AEG style hopup design. But I think that could be solved by using a longer BB follower + more spring tension.

now maybe i missed it but are we so lucky as to have this thing take aeg inner barrels?

I hope mine has the mods done to it before it gets shipped out as i just placed my order the other day but i suppose we will see. Are there any mods which you think are essential to the gun to keep it functioning properly and efficiently?

does it have a standard threaded barrel?

whats the fps looking like and at what temperature?

FYI - You can use AEG hopup buckings and inner barrels with this airsoft gun. I took plenty of detailed photos of the hopup and 360 adjustment dial to show you how great a design the hopup is. Now I just have to find a Tanio Koba HOP Twist barrel...
